Tractor-Trailer Dangling Off I-495 Bridge Rescued Near I-270 Spur

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A tractor-trailer carrying refrigerated mushrooms was left dangling off a bridge on Interstate 495 early Thursday morning after a dramatic crash near the I-270 spur by Old Georgetown Road, according to officials.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer said crews responded just after 1:10 a.m. on July 10 to find the truck hanging partially off the bridge’s edge. The driver was still inside the cab when emergency responders arrived but was safely rescued and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Piringer confirmed no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Hazmat teams were also dispatched to handle a fuel leak from the truck’s saddle tank. Crews pumped off the remaining fuel to prevent any further spillage.
According to DC News Now, multiple lanes along I-495 and I-270 were closed as crews worked through the early morning to remove the truck and clear debris.
By 5 a.m., removal operations and cleanup were still underway.
