OAK HILL, Fla. – A tractor-trailer overturned early Wednesday morning on Interstate 95 in Volusia County after sideswiping another vehicle, spilling its load of plastic pipes and prompting closures in both directions of the highway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when the southbound semi veered into the center lane and struck a 2024 GMC Savana pulling a trailer with a 2008 Toyota RAV4. Both vehicles went off the roadway, and the tractor-trailer overturned, scattering plastic pipes across I-95. A 2003 Nissan 350Z later collided with the scattered load.

The semi-truck driver was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC, a 59-year-old woman from North Carolina, and her 70-year-old passenger from Miami were uninjured, as was the driver of the Nissan.

Southbound lanes were blocked by the overturned rig and debris, while northbound lanes were closed due to a diesel fuel leak. Two northbound lanes were later reopened, and traffic was able to pass using the highway shoulders.

According to ClickOrlando, cleanup crews worked to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
