Driver Dies in Fatal Tractor-Trailer Rollover in Rome, New York

ROME, New York — A tragic rollover crash involving a dump-style tractor-trailer on State Route 49 in Rome has left one person dead and prompted a multi-agency investigation. According to WKTV the incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on Friday, October 4th, when the truck, owned by Real Deal Landscaping of Cold Brook, lost control while exiting onto Martin Street.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the trailer was fully loaded with stone material when it veered off the exit ramp, struck a guide rail on a bridge, and overturned. The cab of the truck ultimately landed upside down in a ditch near a sharp curve of the ramp. Upon arrival, emergency responders determined that the driver had died at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
In response to the crash, the New York State Department of Transportation has closed the exit ramp indefinitely to assess potential structural damage to the bridge. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is working alongside the New York State Police, Rome Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance, and other local agencies as part of the ongoing investigation.
