46,000 Pounds of Applesauce Spill on I-57 After Semi-Truck Rollover

BENTON, Ill. — A semi-truck carrying tens of thousands of pounds of applesauce overturned in the early hours of Monday morning, October 6, causing a temporary shutdown of northbound I-57 near mile marker 76 in Franklin County.
According to the Illinois State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 4:38 a.m. when a truck tractor semi-trailer rolled over, blocking both northbound lanes of the interstate.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
According to WSIL Traffic was immediately detoured around the crash site as emergency crews worked to manage the situation. Rick's Towing, which responded to the scene, confirmed that approximately 46,000 pounds of applesauce were spilled as a result of the crash.
Cleanup operations lasted several hours, with both lanes reopening by 8:45 a.m. The Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the rollover.
