Insurance canceled for trucking company battling lawsuits after deadly I-20 pile up crash

DALLAS, Texas — A trucking company involved in a fatal drowsy driving crash on Interstate 20 earlier this summer has had its insurance canceled, effectively halting all operations.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Hope Trans had its insurance canceled on October 8, leaving the carrier unauthorized to operate. The company was given 60 days in late August to make “substantive corrective actions” following multiple violations discovered during a federal investigation.

The crash occurred on June 28, when truck driver Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni reportedly fell asleep at the wheel while hauling mail under a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) contract. He remains in jail on a $2.25 million bond and faces charges related to the fatal accident.

In September, a wrongful death lawsuit was filed against Hope Trans, its owner, and a freight broker connected to the crash. Former drivers have since come forward, alleging that the company falsified paperwork and routinely ignored safety standards to prioritize profits.

An arrest warrant was issued in early August for a Hope Trans official accused of creating fraudulent documentation, though their identity has not yet been released. Police say they are still waiting for that individual to turn themselves in, according to FMCSA records and local reports.
