ONTARIO, Calif.— The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office announced that the semi-truck driver accused in a crash that killed three people on the 10 Freeway will not face DUI charges after toxicology results showed no drugs in his system.

Jashanpreet Singh, 21, of Yuba City, was initially charged with driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after his tractor-trailer slammed into a line of vehicles on October 21 in Ontario, California.

However, prosecutors confirmed on Friday that “toxicology reports confirmed none of the substances tested were present in the defendant's blood at the time the test was rendered.”

The District Attorney’s Office has since filed an amended complaint charging Singh with three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and one count of reckless driving causing injury.

The California Highway Patrol’s investigation found that Singh failed to stop before colliding with traffic on I-10, sparking a fiery chain-reaction crash that killed three adults and injured two others.

While earlier reports alleged Singh was under the influence, the latest findings clear him of impairment. Authorities have not said whether distraction or fatigue played a role in the crash.

Federal officials also allege Singh is an undocumented immigrant from India who entered the U.S. in 2022, but California officials dispute that claim, saying he was issued a valid Employment Authorization Document and REAL ID that confirm his legal work status.

According to CBS News Los Angeles, Singh remains jailed without bail as the investigation continues. His next court date is scheduled for Tuesday.
