SUFFOLK, Va. — A fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers shut down the northbound lanes of the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT) for several hours on Thursday morning, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. when a northbound Freightliner slowed for traffic congestion and was rear-ended by another Freightliner hauling lumber. The impact caused the lumber truck to catch fire, filling the bridge-tunnel with smoke.
