According to Virginia State Police, the crash happened around 6:50 a.m. when a sedan entering I-64 lost control and struck an oncoming tractor-trailer. The impact caused the truck to hit the jersey wall and catch fire, overturning in the westbound lanes.
The tractor-trailer driver died at the scene, while the driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries, troopers said.

Photos and traffic camera footage showed flames and heavy smoke rising from the wreckage as emergency crews responded. Both directions of I-64 were temporarily closed, causing significant backups near Indian River Road.

By late morning, firefighters had extinguished the blaze and cleared much of the debris, though delays persisted for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation, according to WAVY and WTKR.
