BUFFALO, N.Y. — A U.S. Border Patrol operation along Interstate 90 led to the arrest of 37 undocumented men — most of them commercial truck drivers operating with valid state-issued CDLs, federal authorities announced.

The enforcement effort took place from November 8 through 11 along the western stretch of the New York State Thruway, where agents from the Buffalo Station, assisted by ICE Homeland Security Investigations and Enforcement and Removal Operations, conducted targeted inspections at more than ten locations, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

During the operation, agents discovered 30 undocumented individuals actively operating commercial vehicles, all holding valid CDLs issued by states including California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. Another seven undocumented men were arrested who were not driving trucks.

All 37 men were taken into custody, processed, and transferred to ICE for deportation proceedings.

Acting Buffalo Sector Chief Patrol Agent James D’Amato emphasized the growing safety risk posed by undocumented commercial drivers on U.S. highways. He noted that many arrested individuals had limited or no English proficiency despite operating large vehicles that require advanced knowledge of traffic laws and communication.

“As we continue to see an alarming trend of illegal aliens operating commercial vehicles, it raises significant safety concerns,” D’Amato said. “Drivers who cannot speak or read English pose a serious risk on our roadways. The major accidents nationwide involving such drivers highlight the need for strict enforcement to protect public safety.”

Border Patrol officials encouraged the public to report suspicious activity to 1-800-331-0353 as the Buffalo Sector continues to patrol 341 miles of maritime border across New York and Pennsylvania.
