SOUTH WEBER, UTAH — A winter storm blanketed Weber Canyon with heavy snow on Saturday, leading to a crash involving three semi-trucks on Interstate 84 as drivers struggled to navigate icy mountain roads.

Utah Highway Patrol officials said the incident began when two semi-trucks collided in the westbound lanes of I-84. A third truck then swerved in an attempt to avoid the wreck but lost control, causing all three vehicles to slide off the roadway. One semi veered left and struck a cable barrier, while the other two traveled to the right shoulder, with one of them rolling over. Miraculously, no injuries were reported among the drivers involved.

According to KUTV, only one westbound lane was initially closed, but Utah Highway Patrol officials said they expect to fully shut down westbound traffic to allow heavy wreckers access to remove the damaged trucks from the canyon. The cleanup operation is expected to take time due to the difficult terrain and ongoing winter weather conditions.

Eastbound I-84 also faced delays earlier in the day after several semi-trucks became stuck near the U.S. 89 Junction in South Weber. That stretch of the interstate was temporarily closed but has since reopened as road crews continue to manage storm-related travel challenges throughout the canyon.
