Seatbelt Credited for Saving Trucker After Semi Goes Over Bridge in Coralville
CORALVILLE, IOWA — A semi-truck driver walked away without injuries after his rig went over the Highway 6 bridge on Interstate 80, an accident the Iowa State Patrol says could have been fatal if not for one critical factor: his seatbelt.

The crash occurred when the semi-truck veered to avoid another incident on the bridge, causing the rig to leave the roadway and go over the side. Despite the dramatic plunge, the driver survived unharmed — a result he directly credited to wearing his seatbelt at the moment of impact.

According to Iowa State Patrol District 11, troopers shared a photo of the wrecked semi and issued a strong reminder to the public: “What if one click could be the difference between life and death? This is your reminder: seatbelts SAVE lives.”
Troopers said the crash serves as a powerful example of how critical seatbelts are for commercial drivers, especially in severe and unpredictable roadway situations.
The incident remains under review, but no injuries were reported and no additional details have been released.
