Semi Hauling Equipment Crashes Into Overpass, Prompting Emergency Bridge Closure in Duncan
DUNCAN, SOUTH CAROLINA — A bridge over Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County remains closed after a semi-truck hauling equipment struck it Tuesday afternoon, causing structural damage that requires immediate repairs.
The crash happened just before 2 p.m. near mile marker 64 on I-85 South. According to fire officials, crews from the Duncan Fire Department and Wellford Fire Department arrived to find that the semi had collided with the Nazareth Road overpass, damaging the bridge span.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) inspected the structure and ordered the bridge closed until further notice, citing necessary repairs to ensure safety. The crash also forced extended lane closures on I-85 throughout Tuesday evening while crews worked at the scene.
As of Wednesday night, SCDOT says the bridge remains closed, and officials have not yet provided a timeline for reopening.
The investigation and repair assessment are ongoing.
