DELLE, UTAH — More than a year after a California truck driver was found dead inside the cab of his semitruck on an Interstate 80 on-ramp in Tooele County, prosecutors have now charged his ex-wife in what investigators allege was a carefully coordinated killing.

On Sept. 26, 2024, Jaspinder Singh, a truck driver from California, was found dead in the sleeper area of his semitruck parked on the I-80 on-ramp near Delle after a coworker noticed the truck’s GPS had not moved and went to check on him. Troopers with the Utah Highway Patrol and agents from the State Bureau of Investigation quickly deemed the death suspicious and said they suspected foul play as they began collecting evidence and reviewing nearby surveillance footage.

Investigators later revealed that Singh had lacerations on his neck and legs, his hands were bound with a zip tie, and blood was found in the sleeper area. Surveillance and dashcam video, license plate readers, and GPS data showed that Singh’s truck had been followed for more than 60 miles by a light-colored Mercedes as both vehicles traveled from Nevada into Utah, making multiple stops at the same gas stations along the route.

In October 2024, Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, 46, of Washington state, was charged with aggravated murder and aggravated kidnapping after investigators said he was the driver of that Mercedes and was captured on video approaching Singh’s truck around the time of the killing.

Ex-wife now accused of helping plan the killing

Now, charging documents say Singh’s ex-wife, 47-year-old Jatinder (or Jatinder Kaur) Purewal, helped orchestrate the attack.

According to Utah Department of Public Safety and court records, Purewal was arrested in November 2025 in California and extradited to Utah, where she is being held in the Tooele County Jail. She is charged in Third District Court with aggravated murder and aggravated kidnapping, along with multiple counts of obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors allege that Purewal and Dhillon were in frequent contact before, during, and after the time investigators believe Singh was killed. In the hours surrounding the homicide, investigators say the pair exchanged numerous voice and video calls, and in the days after Dhillon’s arrest, jail phone records show dozens of additional calls between them. Translated calls reportedly captured the two expressing affection for each other while avoiding direct discussion of Singh’s death.

Court documents also state that Singh’s family told detectives Purewal had previously threatened him, and the couple’s daughter had obtained a restraining order against her mother.

First court appearance and what comes next

Purewal recently made her first court appearance in Tooele County via video, where the judge appointed her an attorney and she requested a Punjabi interpreter for future hearings. A scheduling conference is set for early January, and both Purewal and Dhillon face the possibility of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of aggravated murder and aggravated kidnapping.

Authorities say the investigation into Singh’s killing is still active. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Utah Department of Public Safety or the State Bureau of Investigation.
