The incident happened Thursday morning in Dyer County. The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as Sherry Darlene Lydon, 60, and called the case “a deeply disturbing situation.”

According to investigators, Lydon fatally shot her husband, William Lydon Jr., while he slept, then shot her 24-year-old son, seriously injuring him. After the shootings, authorities said she drove away from the scene and collided head-on with a flatbed semi-truck / 18-wheeler on Interstate 155 in what the sheriff’s office described as “an apparent attempt to commit suicide.”

The sheriff’s office said Lydon suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she died later that evening. Authorities said her husband died from the shooting, and her son was seriously injured.

Officials also said Lydon had recently undergone surgery and was reportedly experiencing night terrors, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. “These factors are being considered as we continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event,” the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office said.
