THORNAPPLE TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN — A section of M-37 in Thornapple Township was closed Monday after a tree fell into the roadway and a semi-truck slid off the road, creating a total blockage between Adams Road and Yankee Springs Road, according to local officials and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

MDOT said M-37 between Adams Road and Yankee Springs Road was closed due to a blockage. Thornapple Township Emergency Services said a tree fell into the roadway, and then a semi-truck slid off the roadway, causing a total blockage.

Emergency officials also issued a warning to drivers who approached the closure, asking motorists not to go around the fire truck that was positioned to block the road. “When a fire truck is blocking the roadway (both lanes and both directions) please don’t go around it,” the department said.

The roadway remained closed as crews worked to address the blockage, and drivers were asked to avoid the area and follow direction from emergency responders.
