Cabbage-Hauling Semi Catches Fire on I-95 in St. Johns County, One Patient Airlifted as HazMat Cleans Diesel Leak

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FLORIDA — A major crash involving a cabbage-hauling semi-truck triggered a large fire and heavy damage to a second vehicle on I-95 northbound at mile marker 307, between State Road 206 and State Road 207, forcing officials to shut down both northbound and southbound lanes as emergency crews responded.

Responders reported a two-vehicle crash with an active fire from the semi-truck and significant damage to the other vehicle. During the response, officials confirmed one patient was airlifted by helicopter with critical injuries.

Once the flames were brought under control, a hazmat team remained on scene to mitigate a diesel fuel leak, and drivers were warned that cleanup would take an extended period of time and that traffic backups would be severe.

As of 5:05 p.m., Southbound lanes reopened, but traffic remained heavy. One northbound lane was open while cleanup continued.
As of 8:50 p.m., two northbound lanes reopened, easing traffic slightly, though delays were still expected in the area.

Motorists were urged to seek alternate routes while crews continued recovery operations and roadway cleanup.
