TOLEDO, OHIO — Prosecutors have dropped the case against James Miller Sr., a truck driver from Texas who was arrested after his wife was found dead inside a semi-truck at a Toledo travel center, according to court filings. The felonious assault charge against Miller was dismissed on January 8 due to evidentiary issues, and the court docket states that his wife’s death was ultimately determined to be from natural causes.

The incident centered on a semi-truck located at Sam’s Travel Center on Matzinger Road in Toledo. The coroner’s office said Tammy Miller, 59, was found dead inside the semi on Wednesday morning, and an autopsy later determined there was no evidence of foul play, even though investigators are still reviewing the circumstances surrounding the death.

In a statement released Thursday, the coroner’s office explained that the initial investigation raised concerns because there were possible injuries of unknown origin and questions about delayed reporting. The coroner said the autopsy found a medical condition that can create changes that mimic traumatic injuries, and those findings were later determined not to be inflicted injuries. Earlier court records had described facial injuries that appeared consistent with an assault, but the updated findings led to the case being dropped the next day.
