SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA — The South Dakota Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help identifying a semi-truck and trailer believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 90 near Humboldt, after the driver allegedly left the scene and continued eastbound.

Troopers said the crash happened shortly after 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, in Minnehaha County, involving a semi and an SUV on I-90 near Humboldt.

Authorities said 64-year-old Patricia Archambeau, of Mitchell, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse eastbound when she attempted to pull over to the side of the interstate. Investigators said a semi-truck and trailer, also traveling eastbound, struck the Traverse.

Archambeau was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital and died two days later, according to troopers.

The Highway Patrol said the semi did not stop after the crash and continued traveling east. Investigators reported that at approximately 2:25 a.m., surveillance cameras captured a semi believed to be involved traveling southbound on I-29 near the 41st Street exit in Sioux Falls.

Troopers described the vehicle as a red 2018–2023 Freightliner Cascadia, and said it is missing its passenger-side headlight. Authorities said the semi may have traveled on I-90, I-29, or nearby roadways in the Sioux Falls area.

In an update posted Jan. 10, 2026, the Highway Patrol said it is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the semi pictured in the surveillance image, calling it a vehicle of interest in the ongoing fatal crash investigation. The agency also requested the public provide any video, pictures, or tips from roughly 2:13 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. along I-90 and I-29.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Dakota Highway Patrol District 2 Office at 605-367-5700.
