Family of Man Killed in Truck Crash Says No Lawyer Will Help Them Sue Washington and California Over CDL Issued to Driver Accused of Being in U.S. Illegally
WASHINGTON STATE — The family of a motorist killed in a December 2025 crash says they have been unable to find an attorney willing to help them pursue lawsuits against Washington and California, arguing state actions helped enable the truck driver accused of causing the fatal collision, according to comments made on Fox News.
Jen Jensen, the sister of Robert B. Pearson, said her family wants accountability beyond the criminal case and beyond the trucking company involved, but has hit repeated dead ends when seeking legal representation.
“Where they’re running into problems is suing Washington, suing California, the company that issued the CDL,” Jensen said, explaining that multiple firms have declined the case because of its complexity.
Jensen said Pearson was killed in Washington when a truck driver, Kamalpreet Singh, allegedly crashed into the back of his vehicle in December 2025 on State Route 167, crushing it against another truck. Jensen said Singh was living in California at the time. She said Singh was later released from a Washington jail on $100,000 bond, despite what she described as an ICE detainer.
In the interview, Jensen said the family has begun taking legal action against the trucking company, but believes government agencies and licensing systems should also face scrutiny. She said friends and contacts have attempted to help locate counsel, but responses have repeatedly been, “Sorry, we don’t cover that in our firm,” with no referrals.
Fox News also reported claims from an ICE source that Singh was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol after allegedly entering the U.S. illegally in December 2023, but was later released. Jensen said her family wants “everyone and everything that led up to this happening” examined.
The criminal case involving Singh was described as ongoing, with Fox News reporting he faces a vehicular homicide charge in Washington.
