TENNESSEE — A Tennessee Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Plus East Region trooper placed a commercial driver and his tractor-trailer out of service after a Level I inspection uncovered multiple serious safety violations, including brake issues, an empty fire extinguisher, and an invalid medical certification, officials said.

Troopers said the semi-trailer was operating with a deflated air suspension, with all four air bags completely flat, and also had a flat tire. Investigators also reported the trailer did not have a valid annual inspection on file.

During the inspection, troopers said the truck tractor was found to have brakes out of adjustment, and the required fire extinguisher was empty. Officials also said the driver’s medical certification was invalid.

Because of the severity of the violations, officials said the driver, truck tractor, and semi-trailer were all placed out of service until the issues are corrected.

“Safe roads start long before the wheels turn — with proper maintenance, compliant drivers, and safety equipment that’s ready when it’s needed,” officials said.
