Volvo Semi Leaves US 30 and Slams Into Home Causing Partial Collapse and Damaging Parked Cars as Three Are Hospitalized
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, OHIO — Three people were taken to hospitals Wednesday afternoon after a semi-truck left the roadway on US 30 and crashed into a home near Beaverdam, causing a partial collapse and damaging multiple vehicles, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
OSHP said troopers from the Lima Post responded around 2:47 p.m. on Jan. 21, 2026, to the crash in Richland Township, Allen County.
Investigators said Gerry Bright, 55, of Frankfort, Indiana, was driving a 2022 Volvo semi westbound on US 30 when the truck went off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and a fence, then slammed into a house. Authorities said the impact caused the home to partially collapse and the semi also damaged three parked vehicles.

Bright suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Beaverdam Richland EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital, troopers said.
Two people inside the home — Lawrence Myers, 51, and Blake Vires, 21, both of Lima — were also injured. Troopers said both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken by Beaverdam Richland EMS to Mercy Health St. Rita’s Hospital.
The semi sustained severe damage and was towed by Minich Towing, officials said. OSHP said they were assisted on scene by Beaverdam Richland Fire, Beaverdam Richland EMS, Minich Towing, and American Electric Power.
The crash remains under investigation.
