PERU, INDIANA — A semi-truck crash late Friday afternoon left hundreds of residents in the city of Peru without power after the truck struck a utility pole and power lines at the corner of Shooting Park Road and Pulaski Street, city officials said.

According to Peru Mayor Ken Kolowski, the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. when the semi-truck was turning from Shooting Park Road onto Pulaski Street and reportedly turned too sharply. The trailer struck a utility pole, causing it to lean and damaging the middle portion of the trailer, which was left sagging from the impact.

The collision knocked out power to approximately 600 homes across the city. Utility crews responded to the scene and worked through the evening to restore service. City officials said most of the outage was resolved by Saturday morning.

As repairs continue, Mayor Kolowski warned residents to expect possible flickering or intermittent power as crews complete final work on the lines. Photos shared by the mayor showed visible damage to both the trailer and the utility pole.

Authorities indicated the truck driver may face a citation for being off a designated truck route. The incident remains under review.
