DENISON, Texas — A multi-vehicle, non-injury traffic hazard involving a pickup truck towing a trailer and two semi-trucks shut down northbound US Highway 75 for more than eight hours overnight, forcing police to divert all northbound traffic into southbound lanes as crews worked to manage dangerous driving conditions and clear the scene. The highway reopened at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Denison Police said the initial incident happened around 12:20 a.m. on northbound US-75 just south of Spur 503, when the pickup lost control. During the incident, the trailer disconnected and for a time was hanging off a bridge, police said.

semi-truck hauling a trailer then lost control while attempting to avoid the pickup and trailer, and its trailer disconnected and tipped over onto the roadway. A second semi-truck, also hauling a trailer, went off the roadway into a ditch to avoid crashing into the other vehicles involved, according to police.

Traffic impacts spread to multiple areas

With northbound lanes blocked, police said all northbound traffic was diverted back into southbound lanes while alternate routes were treated to improve driving conditions.

  • 4:20 a.m. update: Southbound US-75 at Exit 65 became stopped due to the growing backup.

  • 6:15 a.m. update: Highway 91 at Spur 503 also began backing up after an additional incident near the parkway merge, causing new congestion in that area.

  • 8:45 a.m. update: Both southbound and northbound lanes were moving again after the highway reopened.

Police urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes during the closure. No injuries were reported.
