“Wrong-Way” Semi on Tulsa’s BA Expressway Drove Back to the 129th Ramp After Avoiding a Kia and Jackknifing in Snow

TULSA, Okla. — Drivers across Tulsa were alarmed earlier this week after videos and reports circulated showing a semi-truck traveling the wrong direction on the Broken Arrow Expressway (BA Expressway). On January 29, 2026, the Tulsa Police Department released the truck’s dash cam footage to explain what happened, saying the semi ended up facing the opposite way after a jackknife on a snowy shoulder — and briefly drove the wrong direction to reposition and safely get back aligned with traffic.

According to TPD, the semi was headed westbound near 129th E. Avenue when a Kia began changing lanes, apparently unaware the truck was alongside it. Police said the semi moved onto the snowy shoulder to avoid the lane change, and the slick conditions caused the trailer to jackknife, swinging the cab around in the opposite direction of traffic.

TPD said the driver then drove eastbound in the wrong direction back to the ramp at 129th in order to get the trailer “back behind” the truck and correct the situation. Police said no one was injured in the incident.

TPD also said officers made contact with the Kia driver, who was described as cooperative. The Kia driver told police they didn’t realize they had cut off the truck while changing lanes, and TPD said the driver’s information was documented in the report.

As winter weather continues to impact roadways, Tulsa police also warned that melting snow followed by cold nights can lead to refreezing and slick conditions, urging motorists — especially nighttime drivers — to slow down and stay alert as conditions change.
