Washington Troopers Arrest Semi Driver for DUI After Witness Reports Reckless Driving as Breath Test Shows .221 and Alcohol Is Found in Cab

WASHINGTON — A commercial truck driver’s day — and possibly their career — came to a sudden stop Tuesday afternoon on southbound I-5 at milepost 107 after Washington State Patrol Trooper Reece Depew pulled the rig over following a report of erratic driving.

WSP said a witness called in the semi due to the driver’s behavior on the road. Troopers located the truck and conducted a stop, then continued the investigation on scene. Police say the driver was arrested for DUI after a preliminary breath test (PBT) showed .221. Troopers also reported the driver was in possession of alcohol inside the commercial motor vehicle.

For CDL holders, a DUI can come with serious criminal and career consequences — including major fines, possible jail time, and loss of driving privileges. Washington’s enforcement standards for commercial drivers are stricter than for non-commercial motorists, and a DUI arrest can lead to CDL disqualification.

WSP noted the stop stemmed from the initial witness report — and serves as another reminder that calling in dangerous driving can prevent something far worse.
