BLOOMFIELD, Connecticut — Firefighters in Bloomfield faced freezing conditions and water supply challenges late Monday night after two tractor-trailer cabs were found fully engulfed in flames on Northwoods Drive, according to the Blue Hills Fire Department.

Officials said the Blue Hills Fire Department and Bloomfield Center Fire Department were dispatched just after 9:00 p.m. for a reported tractor-trailer fire. When the first engine arrived, crews encountered two tractor-trailer cabs fully involved, prompting an immediate attack to stop the fire from spreading.

Suppression efforts were complicated by single-digit temperatures and a frozen hydrant, but crews quickly adjusted operations by using Tanker 26 to establish a water supply until an alternate hydrant could be put into service.

While firefighters worked the active fire, the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company and Windsor Volunteer Fire Department (CT) provided station coverage, helping ensure continued emergency protection for the community during the incident.

Fire officials said the scene was brought under control through coordinated efforts, and all units were cleared by 11:30 p.m. No additional details were released regarding injuries or the cause of the fire.
