WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — A box truck driver was arrested Monday morning after crashing into a guardrail and utility pole along Albany Avenue while operating under the influence, according to West Hartford Police.

Officers responded around 9:03 a.m. to the area of Albany Avenue for reports of a single-vehicle crash. Police said a 2020 Hino box truck was traveling eastbound when it struck the south side guardrail, veered off the roadway, crashed into a utility pole and ultimately came to rest on a rocky, snow-covered ridge along the roadside.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Koby Champagne-Lambert, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Police determined he was operating the commercial vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Authorities reported his blood alcohol content was .12%, above Connecticut’s legal limit of .08%.

The truck sustained what police described as “disabling damage” and required a heavy wrecker and rotator truck to be removed from the scene. Albany Avenue was closed for several hours as crews conducted cleanup and recovery operations.

Champagne-Lambert was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence and Failure to Drive in the Proper Lane. He was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on February 26.

No further details have been released.
