Tractor-Trailer Driver Suffers Medical Episode and Takes Out Multiple Utility Poles and Transformer in Auburn, Maine
AUBURN, MAINE — A tractor-trailer took down multiple utility poles and power lines on Center Street Wednesday morning after the driver suffered a medical episode and veered off the road.
The crash occurred around 9:15 a.m. near 901 Center Street, by WD Matthews and K&R Auto. When officers arrived on scene, they found downed electrical wires and a transformer lying in the middle of Center Street. Multiple utility poles had been snapped and were hanging across the roadway.
According to police, a 62-year-old man from East Millinocket was driving the tractor-trailer when he experienced a medical episode, causing him to veer off the road. The truck struck a utility pole, snapping it in half and causing it to fall into the roadway, which in turn pulled down a second utility pole and wires. The driver was not seriously injured as a result of the crash.
Center Street was closed for several hours following the incident but has since reopened.
