Police Search for Truck Driver Who Fled Scene on Foot in Shorts and Boots After Abandoned Trailer Killed Honda Civic Driver on I-95 in Attleboro, Massachusetts
ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS — Police are searching for a man presumed to be a truck driver who was spotted fleeing the scene on foot after a Honda Civic struck a detached, abandoned trailer on Interstate 95, killing the car's driver.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. on March 4, 2026, on the northbound side of I-95 near exit 4 at mile marker 3.2 in Attleboro. Massachusetts State Police and the Attleboro Police Department responded to find a Honda Civic with its front half completely wedged underneath a detached semi-trailer that had been left on the side of the interstate with no tractor attached. A second tractor-trailer, described as a red Volvo tractor with a semi-trailer attached, was also found stopped partially off the roadway a short distance from the crashed car. No drivers were present at either tractor-trailer when police arrived.

The driver of the Honda Civic was given emergency treatment at the scene before being transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified by the Bristol County District Attorney's office on Thursday as Chad Askew, 43, of Mansfield.
One man, presumed to be a truck driver, was spotted fleeing the scene on foot following the crash. He was described as wearing shorts and boots. The District Attorney's office confirmed that no truck drivers were on the scene at the time of police arrival but did not confirm whether the fleeing man was a truck driver. Police are still actively searching for the individual.
No further details about the crash have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
