SELMA, TEXAS — A truck driver was arrested early Tuesday morning after a police K-9 alerted officers to cocaine concealed inside hollowed-out tractor batteries during a traffic stop on Interstate 35, with the driver later admitting he knew the drugs were in the truck.

In the early hours of March 10, 2026, Selma Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a semi-truck and trailer in the 16000 block of I-35. During the encounter, the 38-year-old male driver gave conflicting information and became increasingly nervous, prompting officers to call in K-9 Maverick to assist. Maverick alerted to the presence of narcotics, giving officers probable cause to search the cab.

Inside the cab, officers discovered four bundles wrapped in black trash bags. Each bag contained a large tractor battery that had been hollowed out, with tightly wrapped bundles of cocaine concealed inside. A field test confirmed the substance was cocaine. The total weight of the seized narcotics was over 32 kilograms.

The driver was placed under arrest and, during further questioning, admitted to knowing the contraband was in the truck. He was transported to the Guadalupe County Jail and charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1, over 400 grams. His identity has not been publicly released.

Selma Police credited K-9 Maverick's alert as instrumental in uncovering the hidden drugs.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
