COLORADO — A powerful windstorm slammed Colorado's Front Range on Thursday, March 12, 2026, toppling multiple semi-trucks across several highways, forcing the closure of I-25 from Highway 14 to the Wyoming state line, and leaving at least one truck driver hospitalized as gusts approached 100 mph.

Some of the top wind speeds recorded during the storm included 97 mph near Carter Lake in Larimer County, 93 mph near Horsetooth Reservoir, 90 mph near White Ranch Open Space in Jefferson County, 88 mph near Berthoud, and 87 mph near Hygiene in Boulder County.

The Colorado State Patrol responded to at least seven semi-truck rollovers across the region. On I-25 in Weld and Larimer counties, four separate rollovers were reported between mileposts 275 and 294. At approximately 7:05 a.m., a northbound semi at milepost 294 rolled over and was found leaking fuel, with no injuries reported. At 7:30 a.m., a second semi rolled over on southbound I-25 at the same milepost, blocking the left lane and leaking fluids. That driver was transported to a local hospital with injuries of unknown severity. At 10:09 a.m., a third semi rolled over on northbound I-25 at milepost 278 with no injuries reported. At 10:21 a.m., a fourth semi rolled over on northbound I-25 at milepost 275, blocking southbound lanes and the southbound East Frontage Road and leaking fuel, with no injuries reported. By approximately 10:26 a.m., both directions of I-25 were closed from Highway 14 to the Wyoming state line. The highway was reopened later in the evening.

In Jefferson County, three additional semi-truck incidents were investigated by CSP. At approximately 8:44 a.m., a semi rolled over on northbound Highway 93 at milepost 9, striking a power line. A Subaru Outback was also involved in the crash. The 38-year-old male semi driver was transported to a local hospital with injuries of unknown severity. Highway 93 was closed between Highway 128 and Highway 72 following the crash. At approximately 9:22 a.m., a semi rolled over on eastbound I-70 at milepost 259, blocking the entire eastbound lane and leaking approximately 30 gallons of fuel. No injuries were reported, and eastbound I-70 was reopened to divert traffic at County Road 93 at approximately 10:04 a.m. At approximately 9:32 a.m., a third semi rolled over at Highway 93 and Rocky Flats Plant Road, with fluids leaking from the vehicle and no injuries reported.

High winds and low humidity are expected to continue into the weekend, with critical fire weather conditions persisting through Saturday. High-profile vehicles are advised to review wind advisories and travel restrictions before traveling, and motorists are encouraged to check the Colorado Department of Transportation's website for real-time road conditions.
