ICE Arrests Illegal Alien Truck Driver After Semi Strikes Pedestrian in Indianapolis, Leaving Victim Critical — DHS Blames New York Governor Hochul for Issuing Non-Domiciled CDL

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — The Department of Homeland Security announced on March 13, 2026, the arrest of an illegal alien truck driver who struck a pedestrian with a semi-truck in Indianapolis, leaving a U.S. citizen hospitalized in critical condition — with federal officials pointing to a non-domiciled CDL issued by New York Governor Kathy Hochul as enabling the incident.

On March 6, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m. EST, Sukhdev Singh, 25, an Indian national, was driving a semi-truck when he struck a pedestrian near East Raymond Street and Interstate 65 in Indianapolis. Indiana State Police responded to the scene, arrested Singh, and contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE agents arrived that evening and took Singh into custody. He will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of his immigration proceedings. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition as of DHS's announcement.

Federal officials said Singh had been issued a non-domiciled CDL by the state of New York on January 2, 2025. DHS was sharply critical of New York's licensing policies. "It is common sense: illegal aliens should not be operating 18-wheelers on American highways. We are praying this individual makes a full recovery," said Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. "It is incredibly dangerous for illegal aliens, who often don't know our traffic laws or even English, to be operating 18-wheelers on America's roads. Sanctuary governors like Kathy Hochul must stop giving illegal aliens driver's licenses before even more Americans are injured or killed."

DHS also pointed to a similar prior case involving another illegal immigrant from India, identified as Anmol Anmol, who was issued a CDL by New York under the name "No Name Given Anmol." ICE records showed Anmol entered the United States illegally in 2023, was released by the Biden administration, and was later arrested and placed into removal proceedings.

The arrest adds to growing national scrutiny over illegal immigrant truck drivers operating commercial vehicles in the United States. In a separate case, Indian national Harjinder Singh — who was in the country illegally — was charged with vehicular manslaughter after allegedly making an illegal U-turn in a semi-truck on a Florida highway that killed three people. Investigators found he failed an English proficiency test and could identify only one of four highway traffic signs during questioning. In another case, Kamalpreet Singh, an illegal immigrant truck driver, was arrested in Washington state after a crash that killed a 29-year-old man when his tractor-trailer slammed into stopped traffic with no attempt to brake, with investigators alleging he also falsified his electronic driving logbook.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
