IRWINDALE, CALIFORNIA — A 58-year-old woman was killed and more than 30 people were injured Saturday morning when a semi-truck hauling a Target trailer crossed through the concrete center divider on the 210 Freeway in Irwindale, striking multiple vehicles in the westbound lanes before jackknifing.

California Highway Patrol said the crash was reported at approximately 9 a.m. near the Irwindale Avenue on-ramp. The semi-truck was traveling in the eastbound lanes when it crashed through the center divider and entered the westbound lanes, striking at least two vehicles. Dashcam video shared exclusively with local media showed the big rig veering off the right shoulder before crossing the divider and colliding with several vehicles, ultimately jackknifing and closing lanes on both sides of the freeway.

Los Angeles County Fire Department crews responded and pronounced one person dead at the scene. More than 30 people were injured in total, including 10 who were hospitalized — two with critical injuries and eight with minor injuries. Six of those with minor injuries were juveniles. An additional 22 people declined transport to hospitals. The identity of the deceased victim has not been released.

The Irwindale Avenue on-ramp to the westbound 210 was closed shortly after 9 a.m. At 9:14 a.m., a SigAlert was issued, shutting down all westbound lanes between Irwindale Avenue and the 605 Freeway. On the eastbound side, the carpool lane and two left lanes were also blocked during the response and investigation. The SigAlert was canceled at approximately 3:40 p.m., and the freeway fully reopened shortly after.

A Target spokesperson confirmed the trailer involved belonged to the company but said the truck was being operated through a third-party carrier and that the driver was not a Target employee. "We are deeply saddened by a fatal crash involving a Target trailer near Irwindale, California. Our thoughts and condolences are with all those impacted by this tragic incident, as well as their loved ones. We're working closely with local law enforcement and will refer additional questions to them at this time," the company said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
