NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LOUISIANA — A milk tanker trailer caught fire near mile marker 137 on Interstate 49 Saturday morning, with the driver safely disconnecting the tractor from the burning trailer before firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze with no injuries and no product leakage reported.

Natchitoches Parish Fire District 5 was dispatched at 9:40 a.m. on June 21, 2026. The fire originated in the rear axle area of the trailer. The driver was able to stop in a safe location and disconnect the tractor, moving it away from danger before the rear of the trailer became fully involved.

Arriving crews found the rear of the milk tanker fully engulfed. A deck gun was deployed to safely cool the tank and extinguish the majority of the fire, with handlines then used to completely knock it down. Mutual aid was requested from NPFD6 for additional support.

No injuries were reported and there was no leakage from the tanker.

Engine 1, Engine 10, BR-5, and nine NPFD5 members responded to the scene.
