PLATTE COUNTY, MISSOURI — A Platte County Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit deputy stopped a semi-truck and discovered the trailer's suspension system was not properly connected and was being held together by a piece of rope and bungee cords — a makeshift fix that immediately put the trailer out of service.

The stop occurred on June 17, 2026, when a deputy stopped a 2013 Peterbilt truck tractor pulling a 2023 intermodal chassis traveling through Platte County. During the inspection, the deputy found the trailer's suspension was disconnected and secured only by the improvised rope and bungee cord arrangement. The driver was cited for the violation and the trailer was placed out of service until it could be repaired or towed from the scene.

Platte County Missouri Sheriff's Office

"We would like to remind our professional drivers why a pre-trip inspection is important and safety defects risk lives on our roadways," the Platte County Sheriff's Office said.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
