Car Slides Under Tractor-Trailer Attempting U-Turn on SR-57 in Georgia — 23-Year-Old Mother Killed, Two Children Hospitalized
MCINTOSH COUNTY, GEORGIA — A 23-year-old woman was killed Monday night after her vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer that was attempting to turn around on State Route 57 near the bombing range in McIntosh County, with her car sliding underneath the truck on impact. Two children who were passengers in the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Georgia State Patrol Post 11 Commander David Laff identified the victim as Michelle Hilliard, 23. Hilliard was traveling southbound on SR-57 in a Chrysler 300 with her two children shortly after 9:30 p.m. when she collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Kenneth Hagans of North Carolina. Hagans was in the process of backing into the driveway of the bombing range to turn around when the collision occurred.
Hilliard's vehicle slid underneath the tractor-trailer. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The two children were transported to a local hospital and are reported to have non-life-threatening injuries, though their current condition has not been released.
The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team has taken over the investigation. No charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation.
