SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA — A truck driver has been fined $11,200 after pleading guilty to damaging city infrastructure when his flatbed semi hauling a large tracked excavator struck a cloverleaf overpass in Saskatoon on March 5, 2026, shearing off the top of the excavator and causing significant damage to the overhead structure.

The driver pleaded guilty on June 24, 2026, in Bylaw Court. The court accepted a joint submission of an $8,000 fine plus a $3,200 victim surcharge, for a total of $11,200 — just above the maximum individual fine of $10,000 under the Traffic Bylaw. The driver was granted 18 months to pay.

The crash occurred on Highway 11 as the truck was hauling the excavator and struck the cloverleaf overpass at the interchange for Highway 16. "The impact sheared off the top part of the excavator and caused significant damage to the outer edge of the overhead structure," the City of Saskatoon said.

Regina-based Bowline Logistics, the company that owns the truck, also faces a Traffic Bylaw charge. That matter was adjourned for plea until July 8. The City of Saskatoon has submitted an insurance claim to Bowline's and the driver's insurer to recover overpass repair costs and is awaiting a response.
