A proposed truck parking has been shot down in Virginia after local government voted against it due to truck traffic concerns.

The proposed tractor trailer parking facility was intended to be built 300 feet north of the Martinsburg Pike and Welltown Road intersection in Winchester, Virginia.

The site would have included 85 truck parking spots. Upper Valley Estate LLC sought the application, reported The Winchester Star.

The Frederick County Board of Supervisors voted against the proposal 4 to 3 on Wednesday night, February 9th after supervisors and members of the Planning Commission cited concerns over increased truck traffic in the area. Doug McCarthy, a member of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, said that truck traffic in their part of the country is already “a total nightmare,” and adding more would be detrimental to local residents and safety in general.

“I think this is more than just an annoyance. I think this traffic is a public safety issue that we have to address,” McCarthy said.

Fellow board member Shawn Graber described the nearby intersection  as a “failing intersection already.”

“I cannot imagine adding any truck traffic to that intersection when we have a choice,” he said.

“Unimaginable.”
