Police officer pinned under trailer during pursuit of fleeing motorist in Georgia early on Monday morning.

The accident occurred on April 8th in Turner County, Georgia at around 3:50 a.m. Monday morning.

According to WALB 10 News, Deputy Nick Herrick was conducting a traffic stop when the suspects fled in the vehicle, starting a chase just south of Turner County. Herrick chased the subjects to the intersection of 8th Street and Love Avenue in Tifton, where he crashed into the side of a tractor trailer, pinning his patrol car underneath it.

About four or five blocks down the street, the fleeing car also crashed and flipped. The suspects then got out of the flipped car, grabbed two duffle bags, and fled the scene, according to witnesses.

Herrick survived the crash, but the officer did sustain some significant injuries. He was airlifted from the scene and has been in and out of consciousness in the hospital since the incident. Officials say he is in stable condition.

“They had to extricate him from the vehicle, and they did and took him to Tift Regional Hospital, he was conscious and alert and in a lot of pain. He did have a broken rib, broken arm, broken bones in his face,” said Sheriff Andy Hester. “We did try to track them [the suspects] with a bloodhound, and we do have the vehicle they were in and we’re going to process it for fingerprints and any information that might’ve been left in that vehicle to determine who was in the vehicle.”

No further information has been released.
