Troopers are investigating a big rig brake checking incident on I-65 in Indiana that led to a stabbing.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 911 callers reported a road rage incident involving the drivers of a purple Freightliner semi and a white Volvo semi and trailer.

According to Indiana State Police -Sellersburg, “the two semi-trucks were reportedly passing and “brake checking” each other on I-65 northbound a few miles south of the Henryville exit.”

Shortly after these reports came in, ISP responded to the northbound rest area near the 22 mile marker for reports that one of the truck drivers involved in the brake checking incident had been stabbed.

Troopers believe that during the road rage incident, the drivers pulled off on the northbound Henryville on-ramp and became involved in a physical fight.

The driver of the purple Freightliner, identified as Daniel Andrews of Springfield, Missouri, was airlifted for treatment of stab wounds.

Troopers located and arrested the white Volvo driver, identified as Lyndon Smith of Gadsden, Alabama, on charges of False Informing, a class A misdemeanor.

After his release from the hospital, troopers charged Andrews with Battery by means of a Deadly Weapon (level 5 felony), Battery resulting in Bodily Injury (level 6 felony), Criminal Recklessness (level 6 felony), and Aggressive Driving (class A misdemeanor).

The incident remains under investigation.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the physical altercation to call ISP’s Sellersburg Post at (812) 246-5424. Troopers remind potential witnesses that the fight occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday on the ramp from SR 160 to I-65 northbound near the 19 mile marker.
