Woman Killed After Tractor-Trailer Collides with Ambulance in Florida

A woman riding in an ambulance died after the vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer at an intersection late Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 39 and McGee Road.
According to a preliminary FHP crash report, a 26-year-old man was driving a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue ambulance eastbound on McGee Road, while a 52-year-old man from Wesley Chapel was operating a tractor-trailer northbound on S.R. 39.
As the ambulance entered the intersection without yielding, it collided with the tractor-trailer, causing the semi to jackknife onto the shoulder while the ambulance overturned, the report states. The ambulance was in non-emergency mode at the time of the crash.
A 64-year-old woman from Plant City, who was being transported as a patient, suffered fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured, but both the ambulance driver and a 47-year-old crew member sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
