New York State Trooper Injured in Crash on Thruway Near Schenectady

A New York State Trooper was seriously injured on Friday, June 6, 2025, following a crash on the New York State Thruway westbound near Exit 26 in Schenectady, New York.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. as the trooper was conducting a traffic stop involving a Honda Odyssey. During the stop, a tractor (without a trailer) collided with the rear of the patrol vehicle. The force of the impact pushed the patrol car into the Honda, and the trooper — who was standing on the passenger side of the Honda — was thrown over the guardrail and down an embankment.
The trooper sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center. The driver and passenger in the Honda suffered minor injuries and were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam for treatment.
As of Friday afternoon, westbound lanes remained closed at Exit 26, and traffic was being diverted while the crash remains under investigation.
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara issued a statement:
“Today’s incident involving a New York State Trooper struck by a tractor-trailer on the Thruway is a stark reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day while working to keep our roads safe. My thoughts are with the trooper and their family... I’m hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”
