Tractor-Trailer Carrying Frozen Pies Catches Fire on I-70 in Rostraver Township

ROSTRAVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A tractor-trailer hauling frozen pies caught fire Sunday afternoon while traveling east on Interstate 70, leading to significant delays for drivers in Westmoreland County.
The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m., when the driver pulled the truck onto the shoulder near the Donora-Fayette City exit after noticing the trailer’s rear wheels had caught fire. Rostraver firefighters responded quickly and were able to put out the blaze, but the highway was fully closed for about 30 minutes during the response.
According to Observer-Reporter, additional lane restrictions continued for about two more hours while crews removed the damaged rig. This caused eastbound traffic to back up as far as the Belle Vernon Bridge until the interstate fully reopened.
No injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
