United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), a major grocery distributor serving clients such as Whole Foods, has restored its commercial operations to normal levels following a cyberattack in June that temporarily disrupted its systems.

The company announced that, despite the incident, it has raised its sales forecast slightly for the fiscal year but expects to incur a sales loss of $350 million to $400 million, largely affecting the current quarter. UNFI projects total sales for the fiscal year to land between $31.6 billion and $31.8 billion.

To maintain order fulfillment during the outage, UNFI implemented manual processes and spoilage prevention measures, incurring $20 million in expenses, along with $5 million in cybersecurity and legal costs. The company expects to recover most of these expenses through cyber insurance, with reimbursements expected primarily in fiscal 2026.

CEO Sandy Douglas stated that key performance metrics like fill rates and on-time delivery are nearly back to pre-incident levels. He emphasized that recovery efforts continue at certain distribution centers and noted that the incident delayed the onboarding of one new retailer by about 60 days.

UNFI remains optimistic about its long-term goals. CFO Matteo Tarditi said the company remains on track to meet its multi-year financial targets, with ongoing improvements expected to support sustainable shareholder value.

According to Cybersecurity Dive, UNFI plans to share cybersecurity lessons with its retail partners to reinforce confidence in its systems and promote mutual resilience across the supply chain.
