Driver Detained for OWI After Semi Hauling Lumber Rolls Over in DeKalb County
DEKALB COUNTY, INDIANA — A Michigan truck driver was detained Sunday night after losing control of a semi hauling lumber, causing the rig to roll onto its side and spill part of its load along State Road 1, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. in the 4900 block of State Road 1, where investigators say 56-year-old Floyd K. Martin of Allegan, Michigan, was traveling southbound in a 2020 Freightliner when the semi left the west side of the roadway. The truck entered a ditch and rolled onto its passenger side, scattering lumber and leaving Martin trapped inside the cab. Firefighters from the Concord Fire Department extricated him from the overturned truck, and EMS evaluated him at the scene. Martin declined further medical treatment.

According to WANE 15, deputies reported that Martin showed signs of impairment once removed from the vehicle. He was detained and transported to the DeKalb County Jail for an OWI investigation. Authorities estimated damage to the semi and trailer between $50,000 and $100,000. No additional vehicles or injuries were reported in the incident.
The crash remains under investigation as deputies continue to examine circumstances leading up to the rollover.
