CHP Arrests Truck Driver for DUI After Speeding 82 mph on US-101
AVILA BEACH, Calif. — A California Highway Patrol Motor officer arrested a commercial truck driver on suspicion of DUI after stopping the vehicle for speeding 82 mph on southbound US-101, according to CHP Motors.
Troopers said the driver showed clear signs of intoxication during the stop. When the commercial driver refused a chemical test, officers obtained a judge-issued warrant requiring a mandatory test — a step allowed under California law when a DUI suspect declines testing.
CHP emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for impaired commercial drivers, noting the serious danger posed by vehicles that can weigh up to 80,000 pounds when fully loaded. The agency highlighted that its Motors Unit continues "doing their motor thing" — keeping roads safe with proactive enforcement.
According to CHP Motors, the driver was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.
