Tow truck driver wanted after shots fired at woman’s windshield following minor collision in Chicago
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — Chicago police said they are searching for a tow truck driver after a minor collision in the Near North Side early Monday escalated into gunfire that struck a woman’s windshield, with no injuries reported.
Chicago police said the incident happened around 3:50 a.m. in the 800 block of North LaSalle Street. A 34-year-old woman was driving a gray Chevrolet SUV southbound, adjacent to a tow truck, when the tow truck struck the rear of the SUV.
Police said that after the collision, either the tow truck driver or an unknown person inside the tow truck pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the front windshield of the SUV.
Police said the tow truck fled the scene after the shooting. It was not immediately clear whether the collision and shooting were intentional, or whether the crash triggered the shooting.
No one was injured, police said. No one was in custody, and Area Three detectives are investigating.
The investigation remains ongoing.
