HAZLE TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — A locomotive struck and split a Butler Transport trailer in two Tuesday afternoon in the Humboldt Industrial Park, scattering boxes of 15-ounce tubs of Country Crock spread across North Park Drive, officials said.

The crash happened around midday Tuesday on North Park Drive, at the Reading and Northern Railroad branch line crossing near the entrance to United States Cold Storage. The crossing is marked only by a crossbuck and a yield sign, with no lights, signals, or gates controlling train traffic at that location.

Authorities said the trailer was crossing the tracks as the train approached, and the impact sheared the trailer in half, sending “boxes upon boxes” of the butter-like spread spilling into the roadway and surrounding area. During cleanup, crews were seen throwing damaged boxes from the wrecked trailer into an ASAP Service dumpster.

No injuries were reported, and Hazle Township Fire responded to the scene. Traffic along North Park Drive was snarled for a time while crews cleared the debris and worked the scene.
