PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA — A man is facing homicide charges after allegedly dumping his brother-in-law's body underneath a refrigerated tractor-trailer parked behind a grocery store in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood, where it was discovered by police Monday evening.

At 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, police and medics were called to the area of Amanda Street and Wynoka Street in Carrick, behind a Shop 'n Save supermarket. Officers found a man's body underneath a refrigerated trailer backed up to a loading bay at the business. The medical examiner identified the victim and determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.

Investigators were able to determine where the victim lived and went to his home, where they met Steven Thomas, who identified himself as the victim's brother-in-law. Thomas initially told officers he had not seen the victim since the previous Friday and was taken to police headquarters for questioning.

During questioning, Thomas admitted that he and the victim had been arguing on Friday night when he pushed the victim, causing him to hit a wall and fall to the ground, bleeding from the head. Thomas told investigators the victim appeared to be dead, and that he was "scared," so he placed the body in a duffel bag so "no one could see him dead." Thomas then loaded the bag into the back of a car and transported his brother-in-law's body to beneath the parked trailer, which was not far from the home.

Thomas is facing multiple charges including criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. No further information has been released.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
