Tractor-Trailer Runs Stop Sign and Kills 80-Year-Old Woman in Minivan at Oswego County Intersection

PALERMO, NEW YORK — An 80-year-old woman was killed Thursday afternoon after a tractor-trailer ran a stop sign and crashed into her minivan at an Oswego County intersection.

At approximately 12:22 p.m., a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on Route 45 in Palermo when it failed to stop at a stop sign, according to Lt. Andrew J. Bucher, spokesperson for the Oswego County Sheriff's Office. The truck entered the intersection and struck a 2017 Chrysler minivan traveling westbound on Route 4.

The minivan driver, Suzanne Beyer, 80, of Palermo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, Richard Ward, 62, of Earlville, was transported to Oswego Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by the Oswego County Sheriff's Office.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
